Job description

  • Energy Strategy and Project Enablement: You drive the profitability of Climeworks’ Direct Air Capture and Storage projects by identifying location-specific, low-cost, low-carbon energy supply solutions tailored to each project’s needs

  • Site Identification and Evaluation: You find and evaluate brownfield site opportunities for Climeworks’ DAC with excess steam availability, access to low-carbon electricity via regional grids or local solutions, and proximity to CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure.

  • Energy Cost Forecasting: You provide risk-aware energy price estimates and forecasts—including power, heat, and fuel - for Climeworks projects across global markets.

  • Technical Project Support: You support and guide project managers on energy topics to ensure informed decision-making throughout project development.

  • Carbon Accounting: You are familiar with carbon accounting for energy and apply your knowledge to optimize the carbon intensity of energy solutions for DAC applications.

Job requirements

  • Education and Industry Background: You hold a university degree in engineering with a focus on energy and bring over three years of experience in energy solutions, energy technology, or operations engineering at an industrial site.

  • Technical Expertise: You have a strong grasp of thermal energy systems and energy storage technologies—including thermodynamics, system costs, risks, and maturity. You are familiar with thermal generation (steam, high-grade heat), combined heat and power applications, or other heat-generating industrial processes such as hydrogen production or petrochemical cracking.

  • Market Understanding: Ideally, you also have experience with CO₂ capture and storage applications and bring a diversified view on energy markets, including trends and dependencies in global and regional energy pricing.

  • Strategic, Holistic, and Entrepreneurial Problem Solver: You align technical feasibility with market opportunities through a strategic, big-picture mindset and a strong sense for business development.

  • Adaptability and Language Skills: You thrive in fast-paced, evolving contexts, are motivated by meaningful work in sustainable innovation, and are fluent in English with a willingness to travel occasionally.

Salary: At Climeworks, salary ranges are assigned to a job based on the level of seniority and the location specific market median of similar jobs according to external benchmark surveys. Individual compensation depends on your skills, experience, and the value you bring to the team.

  • This position is based in Opfikon, Zurich, and we ask that you work onsite at least three days per week.
