Job description
Process Development: You will play a vital role in developing the next generation of Direct Air Capture technology. As the fluid and heat flow dynamics specialist, you will support the rest of the Process Development team in modelling, validating and optimizing the Climeworks carbon capture process.
CFD Analysis: You will perform CFD analysis in order to predict and optimize the fluid and heat flows at various scales — from small-scale modelling of our filter structures to large-scale atmospheric dispersion modelling that informs plant architecture and improves the CO2 removal capacity of our technology.
Collaboration with Mechanical Design: You will collaborate closely with your mechanical design colleagues across departments. You will contribute to the design of new structures, vessels, and plant architectures. You will provide temperature, velocity, and other boundary conditions to our design engineers.
Model Development: You drive the improvement roadmap for our CFD models. In collaboration with external partners, you will develop new techniques to enhance the accuracy and applicability of our simulations, including complex multiphase and multiphysics flows.
Validation & Measurement: You plan, execute, and evaluate validation measurements, and draw meaningful conclusions from your findings. You will collaborate with our Testing teams in ensuring our models are robust and well-calibrated.
Communication & Presentation: You communicate results, findings, and observations clearly and concisely to peers, and present them in technical reviews.
Job requirements
Experience & Expertise: You are a proactive and innovative process or mechanical engineer with at least 5 years of experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics. You have a strong technical background in thermodynamics, porous media, fluid mechanics, and/or thermal energy modelling. Experience with multiphase systems is a plus.
Technical Proficiency: You have proven experience in running CFD simulations and a solid understanding of fluid mechanics, as well as experience in evaluation of heat transfer behavior through thermal analysis.
Software Skills: You are proficient in ANSYS FLUENT and geometry meshing tools (Workbench, Fluent Mesher, Discovery, Space Claim, etc.).
Collaboration & Working Style: You are a collaborative team player with an innovative but structured way of working.
Language Skills: You are fluent in English.
